Looking For A Career That Inspires You?

By Debby

I was working with a client yesterday whom is job hunting, but doesn’t want just any job instead one that he is passionate about and fits his personality (quite frankly he’s been unsuccessful doing it the other way).  Having coached many clients through career changes and transitions (which is quite a joy for me), supporting them to find a career that brings them joy, abundance, and fulfillment, I thought I’d share some TIPS for others on a similar journey.

TIP – Know Thy Self!

The mistake I see people make often is to look for a job that fits their past experience and skill set.  Don’t get me wrong.  These are beneficial for seeing a natural evolution in one’s life and certainly can be beneficial but not as the foundation of your job search.  Too often they have gotten into a career that at one point made “sense” only to realize that their true joy and personality did not get to shine through.  Nor did their passion or sense of fulfillment be experienced.  I believe that one can move into their true purpose in life and appropriately leverage the skill sets they acquired from past experiences while also embracing their true passion and natural gifts!  But if you don’t take the time to notice them then it will never happen and usually will result in feeling like something is “missing” or is “off” in your life.

TIP – Clearly Define & Share It! (MUST be truly in alignment with YOU and your PASSION)

Another common mistake that I see is individuals will write out a “30-second commercial” (a brief message of who they are, what they have to offer, and what they are looking for in a job) based on what they think OTHERS will want to hear (for approval and to be hired).  While it is important to speak to your audience from “what’s in it for them” if you start with that in mind and let it be the basis of your message ultimately you will NOT be true to yourself and will not be able to attract the perfect opportunity which aligns with YOU.  I have recommended to many clients (after we’ve identified their true self and passions) they write a brief email to close friends and family, which speaks from the heart (shows their passion, expresses their natural gifts, etc.) without being concerned at this point with how it “should” sound to a potential employer.  This brings out the true essence without filtration then we use that to be sure “their truth” is integrated into a more professional statement.  If one focuses on writing to the business audience right now then it could end up writing to what one thinks they want instead of what’s true for you.  End result, you attract to you potential employers based upon them and not someone whom naturally aligns with YOU.

If you are seeking a more fulfilling career, I encourage you to take the time to consider what will truly bring you joy and your true self!  The abundance flows from there with inspired and diligent focus and action.  :>

Warmly,

Debby
