Are You Stressed? What Relaxation Can Do For You
By · CommentsPeople tend to think of leisure activities as relaxation. However, physiological relaxation is a set of specific internal changes that occur when your mind and body are calm. It is not the same as sleep, rest, or having fun.
Physiological relaxation is the one internal state that can protect your body from the harmful effects of too much stress. Without a doubt it is extremely important to your health.
According to Harvard cardiologist Herbert Benson, MD, the “relaxation response” means the body shifts from sympathetic to parasympathetic nervous system dominance;
- Breathing, Heart Rate, and Oxygen Consumption Slow Down
- Muscles Relax
- The Brain Predominantly Generates the Slower Alpha Waves
- Blood Pressure May Drop
These changes occur within a few minutes of beginning an activity that produces the “relaxation response”, whereas they happen very gradually over hours while sleeping and often not at all while engaging in a leisure activity.
Dr. James L. Wilson also provides that during the “relaxation response”:
- Stimulation Of Your Adrenal Glands Diminish (so they can rest)
- Tissues In Your Body Become Less Sensitive To Stress Hormones (secreted by the Adrenal Glands)
This means that every part of your body has a chance to return to normal and recuperate from stress.
Trusting In Highest Good For All…….
By · CommentsA Thought For The Day -
When I want a particular outcome to occur in my life, by coming from an authentic energy and from a highest good intention and putting out this energy it often shows up in an entirely different way (form)….and even better then I could formulate on my own. Thus, I can stay unattached to the specific outcome and allow highest good to unfold.”

Personal Celebration – Body Buggs Are Great!
By · CommentsToday I am celebrating GOAL date!
Lost 9.6 lbs, 8.75 inches, and 5.13% body fat since 12/29/09. New goal lose 5% body fat and 5 lbs. to achieve optimal weight.
Body Buggs are great! With some personal commitment and awareness to consistent exercise and eating, the Body Bugg can help you lose unwanted weight and body fat in a healthy way (1/4 – 2 pounds per week weight loss) that your body will not resist. Too little calories typically results in your body turning down it’s metabolic thermostat to conserve thinking it is going into starvation mode. Cardiovascular exercise is great for burning calories just remember that in a caloric deficit without a conscience effort to retain/build muscle your body may tap into your muscle for energy thereby increasing one’s body fat. The answer, include two days a week of weight bearing resistance training.
Anyone want to join me on this next goal setting? Group and private wellness coaching and personal training is available! Contact me at Debby@ForHolisticLiving.com for details!

I couldn’t say it any better than this…..
Here’s what a client shared today,
“By the way, I was very shocked this morning to discover I’d lost 5 pounds! I have no idea how, I felt like I ate all day long yesterday. I am so happy. I’m not starving and I’ve lost 5 lbs already. I’m in shock.”
My Response: Yes, yes, yes!! One needs to EAT to lose weight and sustain the weight loss. What a major shift to realize that nourishing our bodies and achieving your optimal weight can be enjoyable, energizing, and a desirable lifestyle. Way to go!!!
POWERFUL THOUGHT: A friendly reminder, breakfast is the foundation for the entire day so be sure to eat protein and a solid breakfast every day. Your body is SMART and it will slow down metabolism and/or store when ‘catching up’ by eating a lot due to missing meals. Give your body an even energy flow (nutritious food) and it will learn to trust it will receive on a consistent basis food and utilize it instead of thinking it needs to conserve and store it (as fat).
Warmly,
Debby
